Nomenclature of resistors #
Nomenclature of resistors is done in Ohm. This means that a value of 39 equals 39 Ohm, typically with a tolerance of one percent. A value of 1k5 means 1500 Ohms, the k indicates a multiplication with 1000 and numbers after the k are after the floating point. E.g. 1.5 * 1000 Ohms. There are also bigger multipliers, like M for 1,000,000 or 10^6.
Sometimes you also need to take temperature in consideration, especially if you do precision circuits. Information regarding that is usually found on the reels or other packaging, but not on the resistor itself (Except for color coded resistors, sometimes they do have a fifth ring for the temperature coefficient).
Where do I find components, and how much may I take? #
You can find components in reels and in the component drawers. Unfortunately order gets lost over the time, when components are sorted wrongly. It may take some time to find the right component. You may take small quantities for your projects, e.g. taking 10 resistors is no problem. It is not intended for filling up your home stock, however.
