Realize your own projects at TU Munich - Live out your DIY passion

Probably all E-technology students have dreamed of starting their own DIY project, whether it is a small experimental circuit or building their own robot. Without this creativity and desire to create something new, we wouldn’t be proper engineers. The biggest obstacle is often the equipment - one often hesitates to invest in expensive equipment unless one is sure of one’s abilities. Additionally, the space in the dorm (or the money) is often not sufficient to set up one’s own workshop. The good news is that this isn’t necessary, because in addition to the well-known programs such as eCARus, Daedalus or Adveisor, TUM also offers a number of opportunities to implement your own projects in reality. However, these opportunities are often hidden on the homepages of faculties, departments or student councils, so that one often doesn’t even hear about them, even though they often represent a very fast, professional and above all inexpensive alternative to other commercial service providers. Therefore, we have compiled this list of the best ways to implement your own DIY projects at TUM.

E-Lab #

The Student Council of Electrical and Information Technology manages and operates its own electronics laboratory, which can be used by students to develop their own circuits after successful introduction to the facilities. There are professional workstations with various soldering irons, measuring instruments and sources as well as a comprehensive range of components available.

3D printer #

The Student Council of Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, and Chemistry (FSMPIC) recently acquired two Ultimaker 2 3D printers and makes them available to all students at a very fair price. You don’t have to operate the machine yourself, but simply upload the CAD files of the component to be printed on the homepage of the FSMPIC and wait for the print job to be completed.
