Realize your own projects at TU Munich - Live out your DIY passion
Probably all electrical engineering students have dreamed of setting up their own DIY project. Be it a small experimental circuit or the first robot you build yourself. Without this creativity and the desire to create something new, we wouldn’t be real engineers. The biggest obstacle is often the equipment, often you simply don’t dare to buy expensive equipment until you’re sure of what you’re doing. Or there simply isn’t enough space in the hall of residence (or money) to set up your own workshop. The good news is that you don’t have to, because in addition to programs such as eCARus, Daedalus or Adveisor, TUM also offers a whole range of options for turning your own projects into reality. However, these options are often well hidden on the homepages of schools, chairs or student councils, so that you often don’t even notice them, although they often represent a very fast, professional and, above all, inexpensive alternative to other commercial service providers. That’s why we have compiled this list with a few options for implementing your own DIY projects at TUM.
E-Lab #
The Student Council of Electrical and Information Technology manages and operates its own electronics laboratory, which can be used by students to develop their own circuits after successful introduction to the facilities. There are professional workstations with various soldering irons, measuring instruments and sources as well as a comprehensive range of components available.
3D printer #
The Student Council for Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science and Chemistry (FSMPIC) has had 3D printers since 2015 and makes them available to all students at a very fair price. You do not have to operate the machine yourself, but simply upload the CAD files of the component to be printed on the FSMPIC homepage and wait for the print job to be completed.
