Feedback from FSV Winter Semester 2024/25 #
We have read through all suggestions, praises, and remarks. Here you can find all the questions with our answers.
General #
Q: Can you ensure that lectures and central exercises are recorded and live-streamed? #
A: For legal reasons, it is not possible for us to require lecturers to provide online access to lectures and exercises. However, we can pass on the feedback that there is a desire for an online offering. You can help us with the argumentation by filling out the evaluation forms and reminding the lecturers of this wish.
Q: Can you organize more events for first-year students? Maybe something like a “First-Year Week”? #
A: Currently, we are planning study introduction days for the next year. We already have some ideas but are excited for more input. If you think of a cool event that we could organize, feel free to contact us. You can either visit us in person at the student council or send us an email at erstsem@fs.ei.tum.de.
Q: Why are four people elected for the association? Isn’t there anyone else in the association, or does the election last longer? #
A: The election lasts for one year, meaning until the next FVV in 2025WS. However, it is also possible to run for election during the university elections in the summer. If elected, one automatically receives an association mandate, which is also valid for one year.
Q: Can you advocate for power outlets in the lecture halls? #
A: We do our best and bring up the feedback regularly. However, some lecture halls are listed as historical monuments, so power outlets cannot be installed there tht easily.
Q: There need to be more study spaces for students! #
A: Most study spaces are currently available in the library, StudiTUM, and EIKON rooms. The latter are exclusively reserved for EI students. You are most likely to find study spaces there. Unfortunately, space in the city center is very limited, making it difficult to create additional study spaces.
Feedback on Thesis Printing Service #
Q: This is a bit complicated. Can’t I just bring my USB stick and print it out? #
A: Unfortunately, we do not accept work on USB sticks. On the website: print.fs.ei.tum.de, you will find a submission form that guides you through the printing request for a thesis. If you’re still unsure, feel free to stop by. We will help you fill out the form.
Feedback on Lecture Notes Sales #
Q: Could the math lecture notes (e.g. sem1 by Meidner) be available in full at the beginning of the semester? #
A: The provision of lecture materials is the responsibility of the lecturers, which we do not have influence over. If we receive the lecture notes, we can print them. However, the lecturers from the mathematics department have not requested this so far.
Q: Past exams are printed too late in my opinion, especially in the summer semester. A few weeks before the exam is not enough time to prepare properly. #
A: Since we request past exams from the lecturers during the lecture period and have to prepare them for printing, unfortunately, we cannot sell them earlier. However, we do our best every semester to complete the past exams as quickly as possible.
Q: Please meet with the professors and organize that everything that is printed is also offered digitally. #
A: Whether lecture materials are made available online is completely up to the lecturers. We can approach individual lecturers if we receive specific subjects where this is desired. Otherwise, feel free to speak with your lecturers. Most of them are open to improvement suggestions from students.
Q: Are the material costs really that high? From my feeling, the 30 € for the lecture notes seem a bit much, but I’m not sure. #
A: With the prices for the lecture notes, we not only cover the paper and toner, but also the maintenance and leasing of the printing machine. Therefore, the lecture note packs for the first semester unfortunately cost 30 €.
Q: Can you sell in the morning before the lectures and extend the sales time? Half an hour is too short. #
A: Since we organize the sales voluntarily in our free time, we can only offer a limited number of sales. These are based on our available time.
Q: Thicker paper, so markers don’t bleed through… #
A: Thicker paper is more expensive and would make the lecture notes more costly. Since we aim to keep printing costs as low as possible, we currently print on paper with a thickness of 80g/m².
